Welcome Summer

Summertime is here. I am writing this blog on the Summer Solstice. The first day of summer. June 21. The longest day of the year. The neighborhood I live in is alive with noise and bustling as children are (finally) out of school and have developed their schedules of mid-morning bike rides and trips to the pool, more bike rides and games of catch in the afternoon, at least when we’re not getting our daily rainstorm (did we move to Florida?). Families in our development are growing, evidenced when we ran across a beautiful white tail doe and her two spotted fawns on our early morning walk. Summertime is here.

The older I get the less I have a favorite season, I simply love them all for different reasons. Summer brings with it heat and humidity yes but also the pure joy when rushing into an ice cream parlor to cool off and enjoy a treat. It is a time of excited travel to the shore for a week and a tired yet relaxed travel home afterwards. It is the season when young ones grow and change so much and no one cares if shoes are getting tighter and pants a little shorter. Summer nights are when I relish stargazing to nature’s soundtrack of crickets, frogs, and the occasional screen door.

Summer solstice is the pinnacle of the long days and dusk will come a little sooner each day now. I will make the most of my first summer here in Richmond. The frogs and the crickets will serenade me, the stars will be twinkling for me and the beach and the mountains are awaiting my exploring feet and curious eyes. The views this summer will be amazing and I am looking forward to every one of them.

Thanks for reading,

~ Christine
